Officially established in January 1967, Milton Keynes is acknowledged to be one of the most successful post-war new towns in the UK. A designed city, renowned for its grid road system, roundabouts and concrete cows, it provides a unique context in which to programme international contemporary visual art. The vision for Milton Keynes was bold and imaginative - to build an exciting new city that would preserve the past andembrace the future. Today, the vision has real substance. Milton Keynes is an attractive, thriving city with a population of approximately 228,400, a successful business community and a varied cultural offer, comprising sport, arts and leisure entertainent, ranging from Glyndebourne Touring Opera at MK Theatre to indoor skiiing on a real snow ski slope.
