The Bardic Trials 2012

Posted: 19 Jan 2012 03:37 PM PST

The Bardic Council of Stony Stratford is gathering...

In January 2011, during the annual Stony Words literary festival, the first ever Bard of Stony Stratford was inaugurated. Recognised as an official civic position by Stony Stratford Town Council, the Bard personifies the spirit of collective creativity, culture and community in the town.

This revered status is held for one year and a day - thereafter, a new Bard must be found.

In association with Stony Words:

The Bardic Trials 2012

An open competition to which performers of poetry, music, story-telling and song are invited to shine before an audience of their peers and a panel of esteemed judges. Over three rounds, contenders will demonstrate their competence and capability in captivating a crowd, and the new Bard of Stony Stratford will emerge. All are welcome to take part - singers, songwriters, storytellers and speakers of words - anyone who has a voice and knows how to use it can compete for the status of Bard.

Join us for a celebration of the bardic tradition in an evening of the very finest poetry and spoken word performance with special guest appearances from the current Bard of Stony Stratford, Ian Freemantle; the poet Laureate of Milton Keynes, Mark Niel; the head of the Bardic Chair of Northampton, Justin Thyme; Poetry Kapow's founder member Fay Roberts, plus the crusaders of the Bard-Aid Initiative, The Antipoet.

Ably hosted and competently compered by Stephen Hobbs.

Where: The Crown, Market Square, Stony Stratford MK11 1BE

When: Tuesday 31st January 2012, 8.00 - 11.00pm

How: Free entry. Contenders for the Bardic Trials can put their name down on the night or email richard.frost@hotmail.com

Slipped away!

After fifteen years Slip This Way Ceramics paint your own pottery studio, has regretfully had to turn off the kiln for the last time.  We still have a good selection of ceramic paint/glazes, finished ceramics and unpainted bisque that we need to find loving homes for.  The bisque can be painted at home using acrylic or poster paints and will not need glazing or re-firing.  In addition, we have several hundred moulds to dispose of at heart wrenchingly small prices.  A bargain not to be missed!  Some moulds are no longer in production or are only available from the USA.

Anyone interested please contact Tracy at tclark500@hotmail.co.uk to discuss in more detail.  A mould list is available if required.   May we take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers.  We will miss you all.
