Tiny books and toffees – World Book Day 2013

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 04:49 AM PDT

Sian Buckley 1 2012Last Thursday 7March was World Book Day 2013 and my colleagues Sara and Joanne and I went to The Hive in Worcester with a handful of happy volunteers to celebrate.

Armed with paper, colouring utensils and plenty of sweets, we furnished Worcester's brand spanking new library-slash-landmark with hundreds of 'tiny books'. This process involved cutting out templates (available here) and library-goers of all ages taking away a ready-written one, or coming up with their own stories. Many of these were heavily influenced by the participants' experiences of the library, but a few were definitely plucked from a plane much further away! I'm looking at you, the author of The Book of Sheep.

Despite the miserable grey and gloomy weather, adults and children alike cheerfully took part in the activity and brightened up our day! See our World Book Day gallery for pictures (coming soon!).

If you missed out on the fun, never fear, World Book Night is fast approaching! We will be putting on a WBN Quiz, also at The Hive Worcester, and are excitedly looking forward to technical, picture and performance rounds to name a few!

You can book your team's place by emailing us with your name, contact number, the number of people in the team and your team name if you have one – don't worry if you don't yet, you can decide on the night. Note: there will be a prize for the best team name! The more World-Book-Night-related the better!

More details about our event for World Book Night on the 23 April will be coming soon!
