Posted: 06 Dec 2011 02:17 AM PST Creative England has opened two new schemes of Lottery funding, delegated from the BFI, to support the development of filmmaking talent in the English regions. The Development Fund and Film Networks Fund will be key drivers in delivering Creative England's Talent Development aims: to nurture emerging and established regional filmmaking talent by supporting development of their work; to encourage a diverse and engaging on-screen cultural identity for the English regions; to stimulate innovative creative and commercial approaches to filmmaking; and to promote the talent and creativity of the English regions to the world. The Development Fund is inviting applications from individual writers, writer/directors and/or producers based in the English regions for the development of all types of feature films, including animation and documentary. Applications are also invited from writer/director/producer teams. Funding is available for the costs of developing a screenplay (or the equivalent for documentaries) such as research costs, writer's fees, script editor/developer support and script readings. Funding will also be available for screenplays that are ready to be presented to potential financiers, to help with budgeting, scheduling, casting, producing teaser trailers/pilots, and other expenses associated with raising finance and generating sales and distribution interest. The Development Fund totals £250,000 in its current round and applications are welcomed on a rolling basis. Awards will range from £2,500 to £25,000. . The Film Networks Fund is open to networks and organisations whose work supports and promotes filmmaking activities in the English regions. Funding will be available for a range of eligible activity including provision of editorial and technical support for emerging talent looking to produce work, delivery of networking, screening and industry speaker events and master classes, and provision of peer-to-peer support, mentoring, training and advice. The Film Networks Fund is a fixed call with £150,000 to award in this round. Awards will range from £2,500 to £25,000, and the deadline for applications is 30 January 2012. As well as distributing Lottery awards, the Talent Development team will also provide advice, brokerage and practical help to filmmakers in developing and producing their projects. Hinckley Bistro Hosts 12 Bands in 12 Hours Posted: 06 Dec 2011 01:58 AM PST They said it could not be done, but Harry's Bistro in Hinckley confounded the critics when they hosted 12 acts over just 12 hours at the weekend. The "12" event also tied in with the Regent Street venue's first birthday and also raised hundreds of pounds for 12 different charities. Harry Lee Celik, the bistro's co-owner, said: "A lot of people said it would be impossible to pull off, and as far as I am aware it was the first time something on this scale has been attempted in the town. "But I am delighted that the whole day went off without a hitch and we were also happy with the generosity of our wonderful customers who gave so much money to the charities." The day was compered by Royston Sainsbury, with Kieran Hebden kicking off the music on acoustic guitar and vocals. He was followed to the stage by Nuala Bennett-Wilford, Jazz Times Two, Ed Rodgers, Treacle Town, Mark Benn, Laurie Coultas, Royston Sainsbury, Fire Box, Marky T, Before the Impact and The Alamos. Charities who will benefit from the day include Sscope, Marie Curie, Children with Cancer UK, Keep the Beat, Child Victims of Crime, Poppy Appeal, Breast Cancer Awareness, Hinckley District for the Blind and Disabled, The Educated Heart, Cancer Reserarch, Aids Awareness, and Salvation Army. Mr Celik added: "It really was a tremendous day at Harry's, every single act was superb and there was a fantastic spirit throughout the day. "I would like thank all of the acts who gave their services for free and especially the Alamos who allowed all of the other acts to use their equipment. "That meant we did not have to go through changing kit for every act, which saved a great deal of time which was essential when we were the up against the clock and determined to get the 12 acts on in the 12 hours. "Now we've successfully done 12, I am now thinking about 18 bands, maybe even 24 bands…….watch this space!" |
