Milton Keynes Festival Fringe... Posted: 25 Jul 2012 01:59 AM PDT Milton Keynes Festival Fringe, in association with Brighton Festival Fringe and Nightingale Theatre, has the great pleasure of presenting Dip Your Toe 26th -29th July Experience a four day interactive performance adventure, with a series of unique theatre pieces performed in and around bespoke Victorian-style bathing machines. Created to protect the modesty of coastal bathers, bathing machines were a feature of our shores for almost two hundred years. Now these fascinating contraptions have been re-constructed and lovingly customised to act as mobile mini theatres, hosting unforgettable performances by South East Artists and on tour direct from Brighton Festival Fringe. From a working camera obscura to a one-on-one craft workshop, these small spaces open up a world of possibilities GreenandPleasantLand by FanSHEN Thursday 26th + Friday 27th 12noon & 2.00pm On the Green at the back of the Theatre District, (opposite Iceland) Find the castle. Solve the riddle. Change the world? Arlie's people need their daily dose of brand new stuff. When supplies start to run out, Arlie embarks on a journey to find a new solution... GreenandPleasantLand fuses physical theatre, live music and folk traditions in an epic adventure for audiences aged 10 upwards. Join us on a quest powered by bicycle-generators through lands of curious customs and peoples of peculiar habits, to find a happier, greener future.
fanSHEN create accessible performance pieces for theatres and non-traditional locations which ask audiences to engage imaginatively with ideas, to look at the world through the eyes of others and to ask, 'Is there another way?' INCONVENIENT SPOOF by Terrible Shaman Thursday 26th 1.00pm - 5.00pm & Friday 27th 2.30pm - 5.30pm In Margaret Powell Square next to MK Gallery Terrible Shamans have arrived from far off lands and everything to them is astounding. With painted sticks and ceremonial robes they wield their magic wares to summon the spirits within all things, bringing comfort and joy to whomever has the heart to receive it. Bewitching and uplifting, these three exotic priests invite you into their fold. Dare you enter? VIVASCOPE by Seth Kriebel and Zoe Bouras Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th 12noon - 4.00pm In the City Gardens (behind Church of Christ the Cornerstone) Kriebel & Bouras have created an unusual machine for seeing. Small audiences enter a darkened room to experience a unique combination of a camera obscura and live performance. A narrator inside the machine turns the gaze of the camera obscura on performers outside, creating images which appear magical even to the 21st century eye. Using no electricity, Vivascope is a combination of ancient technology and contemporary vision. PUPPET PARAMOUR by Boogaloo Stu Saturday 28th 7.00pm - 10.00pm & Sunday 29th 11.00am - 1.00pm On the Green at the back of the Theatre District, (opposite Iceland) Step into a surreal world from a bygone era with Boogaloo Stu, as he gets up close and personal with Puppet Paramour: a one-to-one session of craft activity and psychic surgery to create your ideal partner in sock-puppet form. What is their name? Eye colour? Hair colour? Distinguishing features? How did you meet? The puppet is created in the image of your real or imagined partner, and is yours to keep and treasure at the end of the session, or to add to the exterior display. Also for one day only.... The Festival Fringe presents: The AirQuarium by Beautiful Creatures Saturday 28th July - 5 performances only between 11am - 5pm On the Green at the back of the Theatre District, (opposite Iceland) The world's largest portable pop-up underwater laboratory. Deep beneath the ocean, thick with remnants of plastic waste, sea creatures begin to evolve, adapting and morphing in their disrupted plastic eco-system. The AirQuarium is an immersive and sensory theatre experience featuring life size mutated fish puppets, comedy scientists and a beautiful electronic soundscape. Submerge yourself in this odd and funny underwater world, and let the AirQuarium transport you to the seabed.

Posted: 24 Jul 2012 08:15 AM PDT Thursday 2.8.2012 Scratch Nights Live Music: Christian Blom + supportThursday 2 August / From 7pm / Free
Christian Blom (b.1974) is a Norwegian artist who lives and works in Oslo. His practice includes kinetic sculpture, performance art and musical composition and his work is regularly seen and heard internationally. Blom enriches and expands his musical compositions through the inclusion of light, shadow play and movement. His musical breadth stems from working collaboratively with such people as dancer and choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen, video artist Ellen Røed and from being a member of the artist collective Verdensteatre (2004-210). Whether working individually or collectively, his goal has always been to allow media and techniques to blend, affecting their respective expressive and structural qualities to a point where they seem inseparable. Blom currently holds a research fellowship at the Norwegian Academy of Music. For more information visit www.christianblom.com | ||||||||||
