HERB House... at MK Festival Fringe

Posted: 16 Jul 2012 07:57 AM PDT

Manuela Benini's 'HERB House' is a vertical garden installation with more than 1000 herbs growing in it. It has been installed as part of the Milton Keynes Festival Fringe and is on display until the end of the festival.

Erva Daninha (Manuela's unique character), will inhabit her house of herbs during this weekends festivities, sharing her grandmother's ancient herbal ideas, exploring a world of botanical possibilities through the use of text, culinary experiments, tea, crafts and classical Indian and afro Brazilian dances with her audience. This immersive theatrical experience will encourage participants to learn and share herbal knowledge and start a herbal revolution. There will be free community workshops between 2-5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Herbs are not only free and easy to grow or find wild in the parks or countryside, but also gives us more natural and free choices for the treatment of milder conditions, containing vitamins and minerals necessary to keep the body system balanced.

Rosemary for concentration
Nettle for stimulation
Fennel for digestion
Sage for longevity
Chamomile for sleep

This unique installation will explore the many uses of herbs, they're history, recipes and old English herbal rhymes with a performance twist from artist Manuela Benini.

The Herb House is a collaboration between artist Manuela Benini, Growing People and The Splinter Group (both Milton Keynes Christian Foundation social enterprises) was commissioned as part of Milton Keynes Festival Fringe 2012 and is funded by the Arts Council and MK Community Foundation.
