Comic Book Workshop 2: Self-Publishing Your Comic

Wednesday 1 August / 6pm - 8pm / £5, concessions £3

Join MK-based comic book maker Paul Rainey as he shares his experience of creating comics, self-publishing and making them available to the public.  These evening sessions can either be enjoyed individually or as part of a series of three.

Now that you have your comic idea, how do you self publish your work? The purpose of this session will be to share ideas and practical experience for producing both physical and virtual versions of your work. Paul will share his own ideas on how to make your physically produced comic stand out.  During this session you will produce a physical comic as a group, in order to demonstrate the process.

MK Dance Festival 13-15 July 2012!!

Posted: 10 Jul 2012 05:11 AM PDT

PRESS RELEASE for MK Dance Festival

13-15 July 2012 in Milton Keynes

The first ever official Milton Keynes Dance Festival will be an amazing three days of dance, showcasing the best of our local amateur and professional talent and it jumps off  with eight free taster sessions of dancing to suit everyone!  So come along on our first dance festival day and get in the mood.

Working closely with the Festival Fringe and linking with the national programme for the 'Big Dance', MK Dance Festival shows off professional choreographers, graduate dancers as well as the local community, all bringing a programme of dance performances to the city.  Two of these MK choreographers are also working on the Olympics and Paralympics at the moment: Helen Parlour as Assistant Choreographer for the Paralympics and Urja Thakore as one of the Choreographers for the Cultural Olympiad in London.

The community dancers will perform in the city centre amongst pavement artists, busking musicians and magicians.  And we have encouraged graduate dancers from MK to come back to the city and work on  choreography created for us by internationally acclaimed choreographer Mickael Marso Riviere of Company Decalage, all in sympathy with the pavement artists.

Following tasters for the public on Friday, community performances on Saturday, the Sunday finale will show the work of four local, professional choreographers at different MK venues in a dance procession helped along by a group of varied carnival-style physical artists wandering Middleton Hall to the MK Gallery.  PLUS get your dancing shoes ready for two Flashmobs on the Sunday!  These all too-short three days are a small display of the dance talent to be found in Milton Keynes and if you love dance, you'll love the MK Dance Festival.

And don't forget that the Milton Keynes Summer of Culture, of which the MK Dance Festival is a part, brings together a fabulous programme of Arts and Heritage events across the city, right through until September.

Our choreographers and their teams have worked in partnership with a number of local venues, arts organisations and individuals hoping that this spirit of collaboration will be brought back by demand next year!

MK Galley- Thursday 12th July @ 18.30pm

As part of MK Gallery's extended 'Norwegian Season' we are extremely pleased to present this event curated in collaboration with Anne Hilde Neset/Ny Musikk, and generously supported by MIC Norway.

Susanna is the singer and founder of the Norwegian duo Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, founded in 2000.
Possibly best known for her unique and
striking interpretations of iconic songs like ”Jolene”, ”Hallelujah” and ”Love Will Tear Us Apart”, she has also proved herself
as an original songwriter with a strong signature. Bonnie ”Prince” Billy has performed and recorded her songs and Mojo
named her song ”Believer” as ”one of the greatest break-up songs ever”.

For this event, Susanna will be performing solo on piano.

Acoustic guitar side project from Morviscous’s Adam Coney and Nick Siddall. Taking cues from John Fahey's Revenant mandate, Colonel Acland & Lord Sydney explore 'raw musics' from a variety of idioms from the so-called avant garde and moving forward in no specific folk vernacular.
