Saturday 21st July 2012, 1 - 5pm

Come and join us with our lovely tutor Catherine Mantle for an afternoon of
experimenting with textiles and go home with a piece of your very own
artwork. We will use a variety of exciting products to learn how they work
before incorporating them into your finished piece. They can take the form
of whatever whimsy you want to launch yourself into. Techniques and
materials which we will use include hand and machine stitching, transfer
printing, dissolvable film and Tyvek, painted fabric and paper.

Basic machine skills would be helpful but not essential as there is plenty
for you to get stuck into if you don’t want to jump on a machine straight
away.
Cost £28

Price includes refreshments and homemade cake and your unique artwork
framed to take home.

Zjuzj It Up, Make It Nice And Shiny.!
Thursday 5th, 12th, 19th, July

How about joining us and the lovely Catherine Mantle to come up with a
fabulous design you can be proud to call your very own. Over three mornings
you will make a simple lino cut which you can print and embellish with
basic and reverse applique. Suitable for those just starting out on a
journey of artistic discovery, we will take inspiration from our lovely
countryside or, if you wish, our urban landscape. We will guide you through
freehand machine stitching and you will gasp and stretch your eyes wide at
how easy it darned well is. Honestly, you’ll stand back and admire your own
handiwork for hours.....

Cost £32

Includes three mornings of making (9.15 - 11.45), refreshments, homemade
cake and your artwork framed to take home.

All this fun and merriment will take place at York House, London Road,

High Jinx Summer Time - 28th July @ York House

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 12:22 PM PDT

Saturday 28th July 2012. 1 - 5pm
York House
London Road
Stony Stratford
MK11 1JQ

Bookings £40/person.

"Noun. pl. high jinx. Noisy and mischievous merrymaking;
a boisterous celebration; a merry festivity."

The Sip and Sew Society is proud to present the second in a series of exciting
creative events known as 'High Jinx'.

Conceived for groups of girlfriends to enjoy an afternoon of making beautiful
decorative items to take away with them, afternoon tea and a bit of dressing up,
this is a girlie get together with a difference.

High Jinx Summer Time will assist attendees in the creation and application of
a pretty headpiece which can be worn to the races/ hen do/ wedding/ summer
party with the queen - take your pick...
"These are not the paper variety which soon get sweaty and dissolve into a sticky
mess, but the type which wouldn't look out of place at a stylish get together or
at a wedding... or on Kate Middleton for that matter!" says Anna Gawronska co-
founder of The Sip and Sew Society.

Starting early afternoon, The Sip and Sew Society will give a demonstration of
what can be achieved with the materials available. As everyone will be working
at different paces there will be other lovely distractions in the form of vintage
clothing to try on (and purchase if the whim takes you), a DIY nail bar and wigs
to change your identity for a few hours. Mid-afternoon will see the arrival of
traditional afternoon tea with the added treat of a glass of pink fizzy wine.

Just in case you are wondering if you need to be handy with a needle and thread

then fear not, this afternoon workshop and get together is as easy going as you
want it to be. Anna and Caroline of The Sip and Sew Society have carefully
crafted the tasks to ensure that everyone can make something to be proud of
and take home at the end of the session.

"Glue guns will be available for those who don't know which end of a needle the
thread goes into!" says Caroline Poole, co-founder of The Sip and Sew Society.

High Jinks would be ideal for either individuals who want to meet like minded
people or groups of friends who want to get together and spend quality time
with each other, maybe as part of a hen do or as a work get together. The Sip
and Sew Society see this as an opportunity to be creative and proud of the end
results while having a jolly nice time too!

There will be over 50 stalls in Middleton Hall from Tuesday 10th to Thursday 12th July selling everything from vintage fabric to furniture, from steel sculptures to quirky interior design pieces.

As you wander through the street scene you'll come across pavement artists at work, live entertainers, busking musicians and even magicians!

Come along and have a go at creating your own pavement art, find your style on the public 'doodle pitch' which is being hosted daily by The Drawing Machine, shop for the unusual or rest a while on one of the benches and enjoy the street entertainment.

Company MK's intro evening for A Night at the Musicals - 4 July

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 07:26 AM PDT

On 24 to 26 October, Company MK is holding a concert at Chrysalis Theatre, Camphill, Milton Keynes. Called 'A Night at the Musicals', it will celebrate 20 years of Company MK by looking back (performing songs from shows we've already produced) and looking forward (performing songs from our wish list!).

For those already connected to Company MK, it should prove a great celebration of the top-quality shows we've done. And those who don't know Company MK will be in for a night of great entertainment, made up of well-known classics and more unusual numbers.

We're looking for a cast of five or six men and five or six women to perform solos/duets and a chorus of at least eight people. It will be a staged concert, so we won't just be standing around!

The intro evening for A Night at the Musicals is on Wednesday 4 July at Ridgeway Centre, Featherstone Road, Wolverton Mill South, Milton Keynes MK12 5TH at 7.30 pm. Come along and find out more!

Film Screening

Until the Light Takes Us

Directors: Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell (2008 / 93 mins)

Thursday 5 July / 7pm / £5, £3 concs

Until the Light Takes Us chronicles the history, ideology and aesthetic of Norwegian black metal - a musical subculture infamous as much for a series of murders and church arsons as it is for its unique musical and visual aesthetics. This is the first (and only) film to truly shed light on a movement that has heretofore been shrouded in darkness and rumor and obscured by inaccurate and shallow depictions. Featuring exclusive interviews and verité with the musicians, a wealth of rare, seldom seen footage from the "Inner Circle"s earliest days, Until the Light Takes Us explores every aspect of the controversial movement that has captured the attention of the world.

"Neglected on its initial release, this now stands as a classic science fiction movie and one of the most remarkable debuts of the 70s" Empire Magazine

Set in the 25th century, the story centres around a man and a woman who rebel against their rigidly controlled society. George Lucas adapted this, his first film, from a short he made at University. THX 1138, LUH 3417, and SEN 5241 attempt to escape from a futuristic society located beneath the surface of the Earth. The society has outlawed sex, with drugs used to control the people. THX 1138 stops taking the drugs, and gets LUH 3417 pregnant. They are both thrown in jail where they meet SEN 5241 and start to plan their escape.
