Master class: Demonstrating Return on Investment and Return on Objectives to Businesses - Arts & Business

    Posted: 19 Apr 2012 05:00 PM PDT

Part of Strength, Courage, Skill, Arts & Business Master Class Series 2011/12

Now more than ever, it is crucial for businesses to be sure that the money or in-kind support that they provide to arts projects delivers the tangible outcomes that they need to justify the spend.  The purpose of the investment will dictate what needs to be measured.  The most obvious are measures like audience numbers, or press coverage. But these are just part of the story, especially if the investment is intended for community investment, be that to raise visibility of a brand, or enhance corporate reputation through longer-term involvement in social issues.  So what needs to be measured and what can be measured?  What tools can be employed to measure return on investment?

Understanding how to demonstrate the value of your projects or organisations to businesses, whether at the point of making a case for support or, afterwards, in keeping the stakeholders happy is vital if sustainable long-term relationships are to be developed.  This event enables participants to hear key businesses talk about what they need to make the case for supporting your project in-house and what data they need to demonstrate that the investment made sound business sense.
