| New Theatre Initiative Workshop Performance Posted: 07 Sep 2012 01:35 AM PDT Birmingham. 2011, August. The Riots. seeing it now as it was then . . . Following on from our very successful launch, we are pleased to present the second of our New Theatre Initiative Workshops into Performance at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th September at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, Birmingham. Local Writers and Actors, inspired to create new pieces of Theatre in collaborative Workshops speeches, will be presenting plays based on the riots that took place in Birmingham last year. This promises to be a fascinating insight into the events of that time, examining the effects it had on all of us, from very different angles. The pieces have been devised and developed over the last 5 weeks. This will be a very interesting and exciting night featuring the work of 6 local writers performed by 8 local Actors – made and performed here in Brum! If you are interested in seeing new ways of delivering Theatre, or are intrigued to see the results of Actors and Writers collaboratively working together, this could be for you. Ticket prices are just £5 (which incidentally will be refunded to anybody who comes to the next round of workshops), for further details and to book tickets, please go to our partner's website at www.oldjointstocktheatre.co.uk | |||
| Posted: 07 Sep 2012 01:34 AM PDT INFORMAL GATHERINGS FOR THEATRE/TV/RADIO PROFESSIONALS IN THE MIDLANDS Theatre Cuppa is on tour to another venue again! Thanks to the Blue Orange for the last one which went very well. The next one will be on Tuesday 18th September at the Kitchen Garden Cafe, York Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham. A few people have suggested this as a venue so we asked and they have kindly agreed to us meeting there. We'll be there from 3 – 5pm on September 18th . It's between specific times as that is a quieter time for the Kitchen Garden Cafe (and it closes at 5pm). If you are working in theatre, radio, tv or community arts in the West Midlands then we'd love to see you. Theatre Cuppa is an informal opportunity to catch up with other people working in the area, to connect personally and professionally with people you may or may not know – in a relaxed and friendly environment. Children are welcome too, so do bring them along if you'd like. If you're coming alone or haven't been before, grab either of us – Rochi or Ali – we'll be the ones wearing the carnations. There is parking in the roads around the Kitchen Garden. Or catch the famous Number 50 bus from the back of Marks & Spencer, opposite Moor St Station. It takes about 30 mins to Kings Heath High Street. Get off by the Hare and Hounds pub which is on the corner of York Road. For more information about the Kitchen Garden cafe (and pictures!) go to www.kitchengardencafe.co.uk So if you're free on September 18th, do pop by and say hello, have a drink and a chat, and let others know what you're up to. Looking forward to seeing you – and having a cuppa! Ali Belbin and Rochi Rampal | |||

| Three-Week Window Festival is now underway Posted: 07 Sep 2012 01:30 AM PDT Between Monday 3rd and Sunday 23rd September 2012, Little Earthquake and Tin Box are curating the Three-Week Window Festival, right in the heart of Birmingham's bustling city centre. Every day for 21 consecutive days, a new artist or company will take over an enormous shop window to present an array of work designed to intrigue, attract and engage thousands of passers-by. Through their Make.Shift scheme, Sheffield-based Point Blank Theatre has secured the temporary lease on an empty shop unit in a prime location on New Street. This unique cross-regional partnership with Little Earthquake and Tin Box has given rise to Make.Shift Birmingham: a new initiative to create links and opportunities for artists in the Midlands and beyond. The Festival features both emerging and more established artists — working in the fields of theatre, dance, music, photography and visual art — and alongside the Birmingham contingent, they hail from as far afield as Manchester, Lancaster, Sheffield…and even Brazil. We're using our day in the window (Sunday 9th September) as an opportunity to try out a brand new project, The Nocturnal House. Peek into a mysterious twilight world, where night and day have been reversed! Squint through the darkness at two shy and secretive creatures emerging from the shadows! See for yourselves how Sloth and Bat spend their day — and share your photos and observations of them live on Facebook and Twitter! The location of the shop is 99 New Street, Birmingham (in between Café Rouge and Coventry Building Society). There's a new event each day (at different times) and they're all free! To see the full line-up and to learn more about the Make.Shift scheme, click here. We hope you'll come down for a peek into The Nocturnal House, and to sample some of the other exciting events taking place in the window over the coming month! | |||
